Tax Alert: Update on Proposed California Work Opportunity Tax Credit

The bill for a state WOTC program that unanimously passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee earlier this month, was held in suspense last week by the Senate Appropriations Committee. This legislative action applies to bills with a fiscal impact, and means they are set aside to potentially be heard at a later hearing.

This action puts the future of the bill in uncertain territory, as it may remain in suspense for the remainder of the current legislative session with no further consideration or voting. However, it is possible for the bill to be resurrected for ongoing consideration during the current legislative session. Thus, First Advantage, in conjunction with the National Employment Opportunity Network (NEON) and government relations and lobbying experts, will continue to work to secure a more lucrative California income tax credit for California employers.

We will continue to keep you updated as things progress. If you have any questions on this or any other state credits, please contact your First Advantage Tax Account Manager.
