County court record searches are available in over 3,100 counties across the US and can reveal potential criminal records history. They include felony and misdemeanor convictions, as well as pending cases – typically from the past seven years. Search jurisdictions provided by the candidate or use one of our options to help expand the scope of your criminal background checks for employment.

The federal court record search identifies US criminal records from federal crimes prosecuted in the federal district courts. It includes convictions and pending cases for charges such as international/inter-state drug trafficking, kidnapping, and other federal-level crimes.

The Extended Global Sanctions Search looks for restriction, sanction and exclusion records maintained by US and international legal and regulatory enforcement organizations and public sources. Data sources are subject to availability and applicable reporting restrictions.

First Advantage searches through the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), which includes registered sex offenders in 49 States, US territories, the District of Columbia, and participating Indigenous tribes. State reporting restrictions may limit reporting or use of sex offender records in some jurisdictions.

A state criminal record search checks an entire state’s repository or police records for county-level criminal records. It can be a cost-effective way to search for county criminal record information in a state.

We offer extra tools that, when used together, can reveal more places to search for criminal history, resulting in more in-depth criminal background checks for employment.

First Advantage uses an extensive database to identify the address history associated with a given SSN. These results expand the criminal background check to include residences (and names, if requested) beyond what the candidate has disclosed. Additionally, developed names or aliases can be identified upon request.

Using our proprietary Nationwide Criminal File database, we check for criminal records in additional locations that may not be linked to the candidate’s prior work or residential addresses.

A criminal record check for employment may reveal a candidate’s criminal records history, including felony convictions, misdemeanor convictions, and pending criminal cases.

You can find US criminal records most effectively in the local county courts corresponding to the candidate’s residential, work, or school address history. A reliable background screening partner like First Advantage typically provides various services to help you identify and search locations where criminal records may be found.

Background checks typically report at least seven years of criminal records. Depending on relevant local, state, or federal reporting laws, they may also include additional years of criminal records.

There is no standard or universal background check. Employers may choose to include some or all of the following elements in a pre-employment background check, depending on their policies and the position’s requirements:
