YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Occupational Health Screening FAQs

A DOT physical is a medical examination for regulated workers that is required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) to confirm they are physically fit for the job. Conducted by a certified medical examiner, the physical screening assesses key health factors like vision, hearing, blood pressure, and overall fitness, along with a review of the driver’s medical history. This exam is essential for obtaining or renewing a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

The Department of Transportation mandates DOT physicals to ensure drivers are healthy and capable of safely operating commercial vehicles. These exams help identify potential health risks early, reducing the likelihood of accidents and keeping roads safer for everyone.

Employers require tuberculosis (TB) screening to keep their workplaces safe and healthy, especially in industries like healthcare where people work in close physical proximity to each other. TB screening helps identify if someone has TB, even if they don’t feel sick, so steps can be taken to prevent it from spreading. This protects everyone from infection and helps companies follow public health regulations.

A respirator fit test is required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or state equivalent for certain workplace situations to confirm a respirator fits properly and forms a tight seal on the wearer’s face. This test must be done before using the respirator at work to protect the worker from known or potential risks. Fit testing is also required annually for anyone who uses a respirator for protection in a potentially hazardous environment.
