First Advantage is excited to announce that beginning Monday, December 12, 2016, you will have the ability to schedule Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screens electronically through Quest Diagnostics.
This feature transforms the old method of drug testing – a time-consuming, paper-intensive process – into a paperless, electronic system for drug screening.
What’s Happening
On April 13, 2015, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) approved the use of an electronic chain of custody form (eCCF), opening up the ability for employers, collectors, laboratories and medical review officers (MRO) to order a DOT drug test online through drug-testing laboratories with approved eCCF systems.
What is an Electronic Custody and Control Form (eCCF)?
An eCCF is an electronic version of the traditional, five-part, paper Custody and Control Form (CCF) – the document used for drug test ordering, specimen collection processing and chain of custody documentation for workplace drug testing. The CCF documents the external specimen chain of custody – for example, the handling of the specimen from the time it is collected until it is received at the laboratory – and, in the Federal program, is also used to document final laboratory results reported to the MRO. The Federal eCCF collects and transmits the same employer, donor, collector, MRO and specimen information as the paper process using an electronic, online process rather than the five-part paper form.
What are the Benefits of Electronic Ordering of DOT Drug Tests?
There are several advantages to the electronic ordering of DOT Drug Tests, including:
- Fewer data entry and legibility issues
- Reduced collection site flaws
- Less paperwork to manage
- Improved overall efficiency
- Electronically sends order to the collection site
- Locate a collection site that can perform DOT eCCF drug tests from a convenient web-based tool
- Faster employment-related decisions
