Update on Maine’s Recreational Marijuana Law
For those of you following the activities in Maine related to marijuana, you will want to be aware that Maine’s Recreational Marijuana law was vetoed by Maine’s Governor Paul LePage last week and that the veto was sustained by the Maine House of Representatives on Monday, November 6, 2017.
What this means is that there is currently no legal framework in place for the commercial production and retail sales of recreational marijuana to adults in Maine, despite the November 2016 Ballot vote that legalized recreational marijuana. The delay is indefinite and there is no clear understanding or intelligence on what will occur next relative to the commercial production and retail sales of marijuana for recreational use. Currently, there is a moratorium in place which expires on February 1, 2018.
