Privacy Policy – Brazil
Who is First Advantage and what do we do?
First Advantage provides background screening and related analysis services to companies in Brazil and around the world.
Our clients—typically employers or contracting companies—use our services to support decisions related to:
- hiring
- promotion
- maintaining professional relationships
- compliance with internal policies
- compliance with legal or regulatory obligations
Our goal is to help companies and individuals establish professional relationships based on trust and security.
In most cases, the company that requested the verification acts as the Controller of your personal data, and First Advantage acts as the Processor, handling the data only in accordance with that company’s instructions and applicable law (Brazilian General Data Protection Law – Law No. 13,709/2018).
Important terms
To facilitate reading this notice, below are some concepts used by Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD):
Personal data: Any information that identifies or can identify a natural person, such as name, CPF, email, or professional history.
Sensitive personal data: Data that requires greater legal protection, such as information about criminal records or occupational health.
Data subject: The person to whom the personal data refers—usually the candidate, employee, or third party evaluated in the verification process.
Controller: The company that requests the verification and decides why and how your data will be used (e.g., the employer).
Processor: The company that processes personal data on behalf of the controller, following their instructions. First Advantage acts as a processor in most cases.
Data processing: Any activity performed with personal data, such as collection, consultation, analysis, storage, or sharing.
Why we conduct background checks
When a company requests a background screening, it needs to confirm information relevant to the process underway (e.g., hiring or promotion).
