COVID-19: Response to Candidates​

At First Advantage, the safety and well-being of our clients, candidates and employees are of the utmost concern. If you are a current candidate who needs assistance with documentation or has questions about background screenings during the COVID-19 pandemic, please read through the information below:

Will background checks during the COVID-19 pandemic be delayed?

Due to COVID-19, some candidates may experience delays with background checks, which will vary by the type of screening and geography. Particularly, some verifications may be delayed as a result of former places of business and/or educational institutions being closed as a direct result of the pandemic. Nevertheless, First Advantage is working to process all open orders as quickly as possible, and we are operating business as usual across several regions. What should I do if I need to get a drug test during the COVID-19 pandemic?

We recommend that you schedule and visit a drug testing facility in your area as quickly as possible. While a facility may be open today, circumstances are changing rapidly.  We also suggest calling the facility you are scheduled to visit before arrival to verify hours and availability.

What if I’m concerned about visiting a drug testing site due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

Some candidates have expressed concerns regarding visiting drug testing sites where technicians may also be testing for coronavirus. Please note that our official laboratory partners are not testing for COVID-19 at the same labs that perform drug testing and only a limited number of third-party sites we partner with are testing for COVID-19 in their facilities. We do not anticipate that this will be an issue. Regularly working with medical samples for testing means that these sites are well equipped to handle these substances in a way that minimizes the risk to others. However, candidates who wish to be tested at an alternate location may request an alternate site through First Advantage.

Should I expect delays in drug screening due to COVID-19 tests being given priority?

We do not expect a delay in drug screen tests as a result of those labs processing COVID-19 tests. Our laboratory partners are testing COVID-19 at clinical testing labs that do not perform drug testing.

The information from my background check is not correct; how do I dispute it? 

If you believe something on your consumer report is inaccurate or incomplete, please contact the team as follows. We recommend that you not contact us by mail unless absolutely necessary.

NOTE: Please be aware that our reinvestigation turnaround time may be extended due to court, employer and school closures. If you have supporting documentation, please provide that to the Compliance Department as it can help expedite your dispute.

How Do I Obtain A Copy Of My Consumer Information As A Full File Disclosure From First Advantage? 

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you are entitled to receive from a consumer reporting agency one free copy of your consumer file in any twelve month period. You are also entitled to a free copy of your consumer file if you meet the following criteria: 

  • You have been notified of an adverse action or been denied housing or employment based on information in your consumer file within the past 60 days 
  • You reside in a state where you are entitled to more than one free copy in any twelve month period 
  • You suspect that your file may contain fraudulent information, or you are a victim of identity theft 
  • You are unemployed or you currently receive public assistance 
  • You may obtain a copy of your First Advantage consumer file disclosure in one of three ways:
